To address climate change transboundary effects
we need regional approaches, which share similar
ecological and often cultural characteristics.
Regional approaches also allow for the economy
of scale when it comes to innovation and a ‘system
change business’ cases. 3 ideas is specialising in
territorial integration and in particular urban and rural
areas and has collaborated with UNFCCC, UNCCD,
UN-HABITAT, and governments on holistic territorial
approaches.

Delta
Urbanism

Deltas are highly complex natural ecosystems.
Human habitats, cities, and urbanisation are bringing
another layer of complexity amplified by the adverse
effects of climate change. Adaptation and foresight
into new realities posed by the sea level rise is a
matter of survival for people exposed to floods.

on adaption with academic approaches to delta
urbanism. Delta Design in Times of Climate Crisis at TU Delft, The Netherlands.

MENA
Region

169 countries are affected by desertification and
the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Region
in particular. Land degradation affects agricultural
productivity, intensifies droughts, and as a knockon
effect loss of jobs and income. There are also
opportunities in shared desert ecosystems and
culture, amongst them date palm cultivation.
3 ideas has been working for two decades in
the MENA region to facilitate a transboundary
collaboration. More information can be found in
Bridging Boundaries. Presented at the UNFCCC
COP26 in 2022, Glasgow, Scotland.
